  • 2020 - Price range: €2.28 - €7.72
    DOT transfers went live on August 18, allowing holders to move their tokens and making trading on crypto exchanges possible. Shortly after that, existing DOT tokens were converted into 100 new DOT tokens per old token; the ownership ratio did not change. The price rose from about €2.28 in August to nearly €7.72 at the end of December.
  • 2021 - Price range: €5.94 - €47.62
    DOT started the year around €7.60 and rose quickly in the first few months. After a sharp drop in May, the price recovered and climbed to nearly €47.62 in November. That month, the first parachain auctions began: projects could bid DOT to get a spot on the network. After that, DOT fell again and ended the year at €23.49, about 209% higher than at the start.
  • 2022 - Price range: €3.99 - €27.22
    DOT started the year around €23.49 and climbed to about €27.22 in early January. After that, the price fell throughout the year, with extra turbulence in May after the collapse of TerraUSD and new market stress around the fall of FTX in November. Polkadot enabled communication between parachains through XCM in May, but the price kept falling and ended the year around €4.02. That was about 82.9% lower than at the start of the year.
  • 2023 - Price range: €3.39 - €8.70
    DOT started January around €4.02 and rose above €6 that month. After that, the price gradually slipped back and reached about €3.39 in October. In June, OpenGov went live, giving token holders more direct influence over network upgrades and spending through referendums. From October on, DOT recovered strongly and the price climbed to nearly €8.70 at the end of December. DOT ended the year around €7.45, about 85.3% higher than at the start.
  • 2024 - Price range: €3.30 - €11.10
    DOT started January around €7.45 and rose above €10 in the spring. After that, the price fell, hitting a low around €3.30 in August. That year, Polkadot introduced Asynchronous Backing, which let parachains produce blocks faster and get more computing capacity. From August on, DOT recovered and the price climbed to about €11.10 in December before falling back to €6.40 at the end of the year. That was about 14.1% lower than at the start.
  • 2025 - Price range: €1.40 - €7.77
    DOT started January around €6.40 and peaked in the first days of the year at about €7.77. After that, the price kept falling with some swings along the way. On October 10, new U.S. tariff threats triggered a broad sell-off across the crypto market and a lot of forced selling. By the end of December, DOT had dropped to about €1.40 and ended the year around €1.52, about 76.2% lower than at the start. In 2025, Polkadot also introduced Elastic Scaling, which let parachains use multiple compute cores.
  • Q1 2026 - Price range: €0.94 - €2.01
    DOT started January around €1.52 and rose to about €2.01 in the middle of the month. After that, the price kept falling, to around €0.94 in early February. In March, DOT recovered briefly, but ended the quarter at €1.08, about 28.9% lower than at the start. During the same period, the annual DOT issuance was cut from 120 million to about 55.8 million, as part of a model with a maximum supply of 2.1 billion DOT.
  • Q2 2026 - Price range: €0.70 - €1.23
    DOT started April around €1.08 and rose to about €1.23 in May. After that, the price kept falling and dropped to around €0.70 by the end of June. The quarter ended at €0.72, about 33.4% lower than at the start. In April, attackers exploited a vulnerability in Hyperbridge's Token Gateway, which temporarily shut down the bridge. The losses affected the bridge and connected pools; the Polkadot network and native DOT were not affected.
  • Q3 2026 - Price range: €0.63 - €1.15
    DOT started July around €0.72 and fell to about €0.63 in August. After that came a recovery: in September, the price climbed to nearly €1.15. On September 1, the Polkadot Fellowship released Runtime 2.5.0, with new features for network governance and digital identity. Rolling it out on the network still needed governance approval. DOT ended the quarter around €1.08, about 50.1% higher than at the start.
  • Q4 2026 - Price range: €0.90 - €1.12
    At the start of October, DOT was trading around €1.08 before the price dropped to about €0.90 in the first week. On October 8, dotUSD was approved and activated on Asset Hub. In this first phase, users can mint dotUSD in limited amounts against USDT. The price then recovered to €1.07 on October 9, about 18.9% higher than around the interim low.

Upcoming Technical Updates


  • DOT-backed dotUSD vaults - timing not yet known - In a later phase, users should be able to lock DOT in a vault to mint a smaller dollar value of dotUSD. This would make dotUSD issuance possible with DOT as collateral. No launch date is known yet.
  • JAM - timing not yet known - Polkadot plans to move parachain processing over to JAM, a new architecture for parallel computation. The transition is ultimately supposed to happen through a hard fork and first requires further development, testing, and security checks. The existing parachains will remain in place. No date for the switch is known yet.
