Optimism Price History


  • 2022 - Price range: €0.3816 - €4.260
    OP became available on May 31 through the first airdrop, after which the price quickly fell back. In June, the price dropped further and reached about €0.38. Later, OP recovered temporarily, but the turmoil around the collapse of Celsius and FTX came at the same time as a weak crypto market. OP ended the year around €0.86, about 79.9% lower than the peak in May.
  • 2023 - Price range: €0.8485 - €3.755
    OP started the year around €0.86 and rose quickly in January and February to above €2. After that, the price pulled back and mostly moved between about €1 and €2 for months. In February, Coinbase introduced Base as a testnet, built with the OP Stack. Toward the end of the year, OP rose sharply again and closed around €3.61, about 322.4% higher than at the start of the year.
  • 2024 - Price range: €0.9731 - €4.473
    OP started January around €3.61 and climbed to about €4.47 in March. After that, the price fell in stages, with a sharp drop in April and again in the summer. Ethereum activated Dencun in March, which let rollups like Optimism store data more cheaply. In June, permissionless fault proofs also went live on OP Mainnet, allowing more participants to verify and challenge transaction states. After a further drop to about €0.97, OP recovered, but ended the year around €1.69, about 53.2% lower than at the start.
  • 2025 - Price range: €0.2129 - €2.101
    OP rose to about €2.10 in the first days of January, but then gradually fell. In the spring, the price temporarily recovered to above €0.80, after which the decline continued. On October 10, the threat of additional U.S. import tariffs on China triggered a broad sell-off and forced liquidations of leveraged positions in the crypto market. OP dropped sharply during the same period and ended the year around €0.23, about 86.5% lower than at the start.
  • Q1 2026 - Price range: €0.08593 - €0.3226
    OP rose in the first half of January and climbed to about €0.32. After that, a steady decline followed: by the end of January, the price was around €0.20, and in February it fell further. In March, OP mostly traded around €0.10 and ended the quarter at €0.09565, about 58% lower than at the start. In January, Optimism governance approved a proposal to use half of incoming Superchain revenue for monthly OP purchases for one year. In March, the Foundation confirmed that the first purchase had been completed.
  • Q2 2026 - Price range: €0.07683 - €0.1542
    OP first moved around €0.10 in April and quickly rose to about €0.15 in May. After that, the price fell back and reached about €0.0768 in June. OP ended the quarter at €0.08446, about 11.2% lower than at the start. During the same period, ether.fi moved its consumer finance service to OP Mainnet, with about $220 million in related assets and 70,000 active cards. Privacy Boost also became available to Sunnyside customers on OP Mainnet; this service adds private transactions and shielded contract logic, but does not make all transactions on the network private.
  • Q3 2026 - Price range: €0.06967 - €0.1323
    OP fell in July and reached about €0.0697 in August. After that, the price recovered, with a stronger rise in September to about €0.1323. OP ended the quarter around €0.1144, about 35.4% higher than at the start. In July, the MiCA transition period for existing crypto providers in the EU ended: after that, they could no longer rely on that temporary arrangement to keep operating without the required license. In August, Optimism governance decided to use 546.9 million OP tokens, which were originally reserved for future airdrops, for a fund meant to support the growth of OP Mainnet and OP Enterprise. The tokens were not distributed or sold right away.
  • Q4 2026 - Price range: €0.09906 - €0.1257
    OP rose in the first days of October to about €0.1257, but then fell to about €0.0991. After that, the price recovered to €0.1108 on October 9. That was about 3.1% lower than on October 1.

Upcoming Technical Updates


  • Unichain moves to OP Enterprise - Expected in Q4 2026 - The transition of Unichain to OP Enterprise is scheduled for October 29. Optimism will handle the sequencer, RPC, monitoring, and incident response, among other things. The chain identity, contracts, assets, and apps will remain unchanged. The transition itself does not change the activation of native interoperability.
  • Vision Chain mainnet launch - Expected in 2026 - Bitpanda plans to launch Vision Chain on mainnet in 2026. This blockchain is being built with the OP Stack and managed through OP Enterprise. The chain is meant for institutions that want to issue and settle tokenized assets. An exact launch date is not yet known.
