Near Protocol Price History


  • 2020 - Price range: €0.4492 - €1.444
    NEAR's mainnet moved to a new phase on October 13, when token transfers became possible and validators jointly managed the network. The price was around €1.44 that day, fell to about €0.45 in early November, and then recovered to around €1.14 by the end of the year. From the low, the price rose about 154.1%.
  • 2021 - Price range: €1.061 - €14.48
    NEAR started the year around €1.14 and rose sharply over the course of the year. In May, Aurora went live on NEAR, allowing developers to build Ethereum-compatible apps and use Ethereum assets. After a temporary pullback, the price kept climbing later in the year to about €14.48 and ended around €12.84, more than 1,025.8% higher than at the start of the year.
  • 2022 - Price range: €1.163 - €18.09
    NEAR started the year around €12.85 and climbed to about €18.09 in April. After that, the price fell for a long time. In May, Terra and the UST stablecoin collapsed, causing major turmoil in the crypto and DeFi market. The FTX collapse in November caused broad market stress again. NEAR ended the year around €1.17, about 90.9% lower than at the start.
  • 2023 - Price range: €0.9176 - €4.202
    NEAR started the year around €1.17 and rose above €2 in January. After that, the price gradually declined and was around €0.92 in October. In the final part of the year, a strong recovery followed: NEAR climbed to about €4.20 in December and ended around €3.31. Over the year, the price rose about 183.1%.
  • 2024 - Price range: €2.258 - €8.274
    After a drop in January, NEAR recovered strongly and the price rose to about €8.27 in March. Early that year, the U.S. securities regulator SEC approved several spot bitcoin ETFs. That gave investors more access to bitcoin through regulated investment products, an important step for the crypto market. NEAR pulled back after the peak, but recovered later in the year and ended around €4.74, about 42.8% higher than at the start of 2024.
  • 2025 - Price range: €1.198 - €5.998
    NEAR rose to about €6 in the first days of January, but then declined over the course of the year. In February, about $1.5 billion worth of crypto was stolen from crypto exchange Bybit, a major security issue for the sector. NEAR also changed its token issuance: the annual maximum inflation was lowered from 5% to 2.5%. NEAR ended the year around €1.29, about 72.8% lower than at the start.
  • Q1 2026 - Price range: €0.7161 - €1.627
    NEAR rose to about €1.63 in January, but then dropped sharply. In early February, the price was around €0.72. NEAR then gradually recovered and ended the quarter around €1.03. In February, NEAR introduced Confidential Intents, which can shield certain transaction data from the public blockchain. The launch came during a period when the price partially recovered. The price ended the quarter about 20.2% lower than at the start.
  • Q2 2026 - Price range: €0.99 - €2.657
    NEAR started April around €1.02 and mostly traded around that level during the month. In May, the price moved higher and the rise accelerated later that month. In early June, NEAR reached about €2.66, after which the price pulled back and ended the quarter around €1.56. That meant NEAR was about 52.3% higher at the end of June than at the start of the quarter.
  • Q3 2026 - Price range: €1.331 - €4.900
    NEAR started July around €1.56 and fell to about €1.33 in the following weeks. After that, a strong rally followed: by the end of September, the price had climbed to nearly €4.90 and ended the quarter around €4.71. In the same quarter, Bitwise launched a NEAR ETF in the United States with ticker NRR. This investment product made exposure to NEAR and staking rewards possible through regular brokerage infrastructure. Over the quarter, NEAR rose about 202.2%.
  • Q4 2026 - Price range: €3.837 - €4.994
    NEAR started October around €4.71 and fell to about €4.17 in the first few days. On October 8, the price moved sharply: it rose to nearly €4.99 and then pulled back. On October 9, NEAR was around €4.17, about 11.5% lower than at the start of the period.

Upcoming Technical Updates


  • External Contract Calls - Expected in Q4 2026 - With this planned mainnet update, smart contracts will be able to accept transactions that were initiated outside NEAR, with their own way of verifying those transactions. That could create new ways to connect other systems and accounts with NEAR.
  • Single-Block Cross-Shard Transactions - Expected in Q2 2027 - This planned upgrade is meant to let transactions that touch multiple shards execute all at once, instead of through a series of steps. That could make it easier for apps to work across different shards.
  • SPICE V1 Mainnet Launch - Expected in Q1 2027 - This upgrade separates transaction ordering from execution. As a result, block production does not have to wait until transactions are processed. NEAR is aiming for 200-millisecond blocks and better support for complex transactions.
