Litecoin Price History


  • 2013 - Price range: €1.19 - €39.17
    In October, LTC was around €1.19. After that, the price rose quickly and reached about €39.17 by the end of November. In December, it dropped sharply; Litecoin ended the year around €17.71. The rise lined up with the strong growth of the early crypto market. On December 5, China limited the ability of financial institutions to do business with bitcoin, against the backdrop of that rapid growth.
  • 2014 - Price range: €2.19 - €23.56
    LTC started the year around €17.72 and climbed to about €23.56 in early January. After that, the price fell for a long time and was around €2.25 at the end of December, about 87.3% lower than at the start of the year. The collapse of Mt. Gox in February, when the major bitcoin exchange filed for bankruptcy protection, brought the risks of trading through crypto exchanges into sharp focus.
  • 2015 - Price range: €0.94 - €7.86
    LTC fell to about €0.94 in January. After that, the price recovered and rose quickly to around €7.86 in the summer. After that peak, LTC pulled back and ended the year around €3.21. In August, the first Litecoin halving took place: the reward for miners per new block went from 50 to 25 LTC. That meant fewer new LTC were created.
  • 2016 - Price range: €2.68 - €5.28
    LTC started the year around €3.21 and fell to about €2.68 in January. In the spring, the price gradually moved higher, with a peak around €5.28 in June. After that came a pullback, but LTC recovered to about €4.11 by the end of the year. In August, the hack at crypto exchange Bitfinex exposed the risks of trading platforms and storing crypto with a third party.
  • 2017 - Price range: €3.43 - €318.39
    LTC started the year around €4.12 and rose quickly in the spring. In May, Coinbase added Litecoin, allowing customers to buy and sell LTC through the website and app. That same month, Segregated Witness was also activated, a change in the way transaction data was processed. The price kept rising later in the year to about €318.39 and ended December around €193.38.
  • 2018 - Price range: €20.19 - €268.64
    After a short rise to about €268.64 in early January, LTC fell for most of the year. In March, LitePay, an announced service for payments with Litecoin, shut down before those services ever launched. The price dropped to about €20.19 in December and ended the year around €26.51, about 86.3% lower than at the start. This happened during the broad crypto market downturn after the strong run-up in 2017.
  • 2019 - Price range: €26.29 - €128.60
    LTC started the year around €26.51 and climbed sharply in the spring. In June, the price was around €128.60. After that peak, LTC gradually declined and ended the year around €36.85. In August, the reward for miners per new block was cut in half from 25 to 12.5 LTC.
  • 2020 - Price range: €22.87 - €112.61
    LTC started the year around €36.83 and rose in January and February. In March, the price fell during the global sell-off around the coronavirus crisis to about €22.87. After that came a long recovery: by the end of December, LTC had climbed to around €112.61 and ended the year around €102.08. In October, PayPal announced a U.S. service that let customers buy, hold, and sell Litecoin, among other things.
  • 2021 - Price range: €88.41 - €339.80
    LTC rose sharply in the spring and climbed to about €339.80 in May. After that came a steep drop; in July, the price was around €88.41. Later, LTC recovered somewhat and ended the year around €128.82. In September, a fake report about a partnership with Walmart caused a brief price spike, followed by a pullback. Walmart denied that it had announced the partnership.
  • 2022 - Price range: €39.09 - €134.46
    LTC started the year around €128.84, but fell sharply in the first half. In May, Litecoin got MWEB, an optional environment for more private transactions. That same month, Terra and its stablecoin UST collapsed, causing major turmoil in the crypto market. In June, major South Korean crypto exchanges announced they would delist LTC because of the privacy feature. The price fell to about €39.09 that month and ended the year around €65.26. In November, the collapse of FTX once again caused broad turmoil in the crypto market.
  • 2023 - Price range: €53.72 - €104.91
    LTC started the year around €65.26 and rose in the first half, reaching about €104.91 in July. After that, the price fell back and was around €53.72 in September. By the end of the year, LTC recovered to about €66.15. In August, the third Litecoin halving took place: the reward per new block went from 12.5 to 6.25 LTC. The price ended the year about 1.4% higher than at the start.
  • 2024 - Price range: €45.72 - €139.31
    LTC started the year around €66.15. After swings in the spring, the price fell to about €45.72 in August. After that, LTC recovered strongly and the price rose to around €139.31 in early December, before dropping back to €99.56 at the end of the year. In January, the SEC approved U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded products, an important step for regulated access to crypto. In April, Litecoin futures also launched on a U.S. regulated exchange.
  • 2025 - Price range: €57.30 - €137.16
    LTC rose quickly in January from about €99.56 to around €137.16. After that came a choppy decline. In April, the price fell to about €57.30 and then recovered somewhat, but the rise did not last. LTC ended the year around €65.32, about 34.4% lower than at the start. In October, the Canary Litecoin ETF began trading on Nasdaq, giving investors exposure to LTC through listed shares.
  • Q1 2026 - Price range: €38.32 - €72.49
    LTC climbed to about €72.49 in early January. After that, the price fell, with a low around €38.32 in February. In March, LTC gradually recovered and ended the quarter around €46.60. During the same period, developers found a bug in MWEB that allowed an attacker to wrongly withdraw about 85,034 LTC. Miners temporarily blocked the funds involved, and the attacker later cooperated with the recovery. According to the official recap, no confirmed user funds were ultimately lost.
  • Q2 2026 - Price range: €34.54 - €51.48
    LTC started April around €46.54 and climbed to about €51.48 in May. After that, the price fell back, with a low around €34.54 in June. LTC ended the quarter around €36.67, about 21.2% lower than at the start. In April, a new attempt to abuse MWEB exposed a bug in how modified blocks were processed. During the recovery, 13 invalid blocks were removed; some swap services took losses because they had processed activity on the invalid version of the network.
  • Q3 2026 - Price range: €36.11 - €66.06
    LTC started July around €36.67 and moved gradually higher that month. In August, the price first stayed around €38, but later a stronger rise followed. In September, LTC climbed further to about €66.06 and ended the quarter around €59.34, 61.8% higher than at the start. In August, Litecoin released an urgent update that tightened the checking of MWEB transactions and network data and added extra protection against abuse.
  • Q4 2026 - Price range: €54.37 - €64.26
    In early October, LTC rose from about €59.34 to around €64.26. After that, the price fell for a few days, to around €54.37 on October 8. After a brief recovery, Litecoin fell again and reached about €53.37 on October 13. LTC ended that day around €54.57, about 8% lower than at the start of the quarter.

Upcoming Technical Updates


  • cLTC on Canton - Expected in end 2026 - Greywick Digital wants to launch cLTC on Canton by the end of 2026, with support from the Litecoin Foundation. Each cLTC token represents one LTC held in reserve. That would let institutions with access to Canton use Litecoin-linked tokens on that network. The launch still depends on things like testnet validation and reserve information.
  • LitVM mainnet - Expected in Q4 2026 - The planned launch brings a smart contract network to Litecoin. Developers will be able to build applications that work with Ethereum software; users will pay transaction fees with zkLTC, a version of LTC that is linked to LTC. In the first phase, transactions will be settled on Ethereum. Direct settlement on Litecoin is planned for a later phase.
  • Fourth Litecoin halving - Expected in 2027 - At block 3,360,000, the reward for miners per new block will drop from 6.25 to 3.125 LTC according to the schedule. That means fewer new LTC will be created per block and the share of miners' income that comes from this reward will change. The exact date is not fixed, because it depends on how quickly blocks are produced.
