Additional Information about Ravencoin (RVN)

What is Ravencoin (RVN)?

Ravencoin (RVN) is a cryptocurrency and blockchain that was developed in 2018 for creating and transferring RVN and other valuable assets in a decentralized way, without the involvement of a third party. The idea is similar to Bitcoin, and Ravencoin is also based on Bitcoin's code, but with adjustments that make issuing tokens easier.

In addition, Ravencoin differs in its purpose. Bitcoin is focused on sending and receiving Bitcoin, while Ravencoin aims to tokenize real-world assets, such as stocks, gold, or other valuable possessions, and send them directly between users. This allows businesses and individuals to easily create and manage digital representations of value.

How does Ravencoin (RVN) work?

Ravencoin operates based on a Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism, similar to Bitcoin. This means that Ravencoin uses miners who contribute computing power to validate transactions and add new blocks to the blockchain.

What sets Ravencoin apart is that the network is specifically designed for issuing tokens (assets). Users can easily create their own tokens on the blockchain, which can represent ownership, rights, or other forms of value.

To create a new asset, a user must burn a small amount of RVN. This mechanism prevents spam and ensures the network remains efficient.

In addition, on the Ravencoin network you can send messages to token holders, distribute dividends, and manage ownership rights. This makes Ravencoin very suitable for managing valuable assets and enables companies to tokenize shares and easily pay dividends to shareholders.

The block time of Ravencoin is around 1 minute, which is faster than Bitcoin (about 10 minutes). This is the time it takes for a block to be added: the faster this happens, the sooner transactions can be confirmed. As a result, transactions on Ravencoin can be processed faster than on Bitcoin.

Who are the founders of Ravencoin (RVN)?

Ravencoin was launched in 2018 by Bruce Fenton and Tron Black, together with a team of developers.

The project was developed as an open-source initiative with no premine or ICO, meaning that no tokens were distributed in advance to the team or investors at launch. Ravencoin is based on a fork of the Bitcoin code and has since been further developed by a community of developers and contributors.

What is the RVN token?

The RVN token is the native cryptocurrency of the Ravencoin network and plays a central role within the ecosystem. For example, you can use RVN to pay transaction fees within the network, as well as for the creation of new assets (tokenizing assets). Within the network, this is done by burning RVN tokens. This simultaneously reduces the amount of RVN in circulation, which can benefit value performance, but is primarily intended to prevent spam. You can also send and receive tokens and transmit data via the network.

In addition, new tokens are brought into circulation through mining. This process ensures that computers apply computing power to secure the network, and transactions can be executed and processed into new blocks (Proof of Work). Like Bitcoin, Ravencoin has a halving, where the block reward is periodically halved. The halving in combination with burning RVN can create scarcity, which can have a positive effect on value performance.

What can you do with RVN tokens?

You can do several things with RVN tokens within and outside the Ravencoin ecosystem:

  • Pay transaction costs: RVN is used to pay fees for transactions on the network.
  • Create assets: Users can burn RVN to create new tokens or digital assets.
  • Transfer value: RVN can be used to send value peer-to-peer without the involvement of a third party.
  • Mining: RVN can be earned by participating in the mining process, where miners contribute computing power to validate transactions and add new blocks to the blockchain. As a reward, they receive new RVN tokens.
  • Trading: RVN can be bought, sold, and traded on various crypto platforms, such as Finst.
  • Participate in the ecosystem: RVN can be used within applications built on the Ravencoin network.

Ravencoin halvings

Like Bitcoin, Ravencoin uses a halving mechanism. This means that the reward miners receive for adding new blocks is periodically halved. This reduces the influx of new RVN tokens, which can contribute to scarcity.

The first halving of Ravencoin took place in January 2022 (block 2,100,000). The block reward was reduced from 5,000 RVN to 2,500 RVN per block.

The second halving was carried out on January 11, 2026 (block 4,200,000). The block reward was halved again from 2,500 RVN to 1,250 RVN per block.

After that, future halvings follow the same schedule:

  • 2030 (block 6,300,000): 1,250 → 625 RVN
  • 2034 (block 8,400,000): 625 → 312.5 RVN

Halvings take place about every 4 years, depending on the average block time of 1 minute.

Through this periodic reduction of the block reward, the network's inflation decreases, while mining continues to play an important role in securing the blockchain.
