Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a cryptocurrency that emerged as a result of a hard fork from the original Bitcoin network in August 2017. It was created to address some of the scalability issues and high transaction fees associated with Bitcoin. Bitcoin Cash aims to provide a peer-to-peer electronic cash system that allows for fast, low-cost transactions. Bitcoin Cash operates on a decentralized blockchain, similar to Bitcoin. However, it has made some significant changes to the original Bitcoin protocol. The most notable difference is the increase in block size from 1MB to 8MB (and later to 32MB) in order to accommodate more transactions in each block. This larger block size allows for more transactions to be processed at a time, resulting in faster confirmation times and lower fees.
Bitcoin Cash works by utilizing a consensus mechanism called proof-of-work (PoW), where miners compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles to validate transactions and add them to the blockchain. Miners are rewarded with newly minted BCH coins and transaction fees for their efforts. The increased block size and faster block generation times enable Bitcoin Cash to handle a greater number of transactions per second compared to Bitcoin.
